Itinerary

  • Day 1: Kuala Lumpur > Kuala Selangor
    • Pickup from your Kuala Lumpur hotel in the morning. We journey north west toward the rice field of Selangor, transitioning from urban landscapes to countryside agricultural habitats. Focused birding across the open coastal rice fields and agricultural edges near Kuala Selangor. We target open-country species such as egrets, bitterns, kingfishers, and wintering/migratory species depending on the season. Hotel check-in in Kuala Selangor followed by a relaxed welcome dinner featuring local cuisine.
    • Overnight: Kuala Selangor

    • Early session at Taman Alam Kuala Selangor (Kuala Selangor Nature Park). We explore the mangrove park, targeting mangrove specialists such as Mangrove Whistler, Mangrove Blue Flycatcher, Sunda Pygmy Woodpecker, Laced Woodpecker, Greater Flameback, and others. Departure toward the Titiwangsa Mountain Range. As we wind uphill, we make strategic roadside stops along the lower foothill forests to scan for additional species to the trip list. Arrival at Fraser’s Hill (elevation ~1,300m). Weather and time permitting, we conduct our late-afternoon birding along the roadside.

    • A full, unhurried birding day dedicated to forest roads of Fraser’s Hill. Without long highway drives, we spend maximum time in the field targeting the resident specialties in the hill station.
